Tournament May 31: DFW True Hoopers Festival
Organizers of Dallas Select Recruits are thrilled to announce our inaugural DFW True Hoopers Festival is set for May 31, 2025! This event will showcase the incredible basketball talent and community pride of the metroplex, a city rich with athletic history. Schools like Faith Family Academy, known for their impressive three-peat run in the state championships, alongside Dallas Carter, South Oak Cliff, and Duncanville, have paved the way for excellence, inspiring countless players who aspire to greatness.
DSR has been brewing up heavy attention to their sports programs, with Fall Ball scheduled to have their first match in December. The deep athletic pool in Dallas is a huge component of the talent comprising the region, making it no surprise that players from every corner of the city are expected to show up. DSR isn’t interested in the 5stars or top-tier names; the vision here is about creating a space for the underrated and overlooked, and turning them into those 5star recruits and gamechangers for their community. The expectation isn’t just to produce skilled players, but to nurture leaders who bring grit and passion to the game—exactly what has driven Dallas athletes for generations. The Selects want players who are ready to put in the work, grow through resilience, and set their sights on becoming elite.
Throughout 635 and surrounding, a mass of talents have made their names known, taking their roots back to local courts. Players like Julius Randle (Prestonwood Christian Academy), Marcus Smart (Flower Mound Marcus), and Emmanuel Mudiay (Grace Preparatory Academy) exemplify the area’s commitment to cultivating elite talent. The sports culture in Dallas, especially in basketball, has a long and celebrated history, and the city’s athletic identity has largely been shaped by both powerhouse stars and underrated gems. Many of the legends who’ve come up from local gyms and high school courts were underestimated before they exploded onto the national stage. The legacy of building strong competitors resonates across the city, and DSR aims to harness this structure as a platform.
The tournament promises full-court, 5v5 matches with a tournament-style structure, featuring pre-registered players from across the DFW area. This event is more than just games; it’s a tribute to the vibrant basketball culture of Dallas, where participants and fans can connect, share experiences, and draw inspiration from the rich history of the sport. Players will come together, showcasing what they’ve got while special guests, including coaches and Dallas ISD alumni, join us to energize the atmosphere throughout the day. This tournament honors not only those who step onto the court but also the legacy of Dallas basketball. Whether you’re coming to compete, to coach, or just to cheer on the future stars of the game, DSR’s True Hooper Festival is set to be an unforgettable experience for everyone.
